About Us

The wind blows wherever it pleases (Jn3:8)

The winds of the Charismatic Renewal were blowing in the Capital of our nation by the year 1976 when a young Jesuit scholastic Fio Mascarenhas studying in Vidyajyoti formed a prayer group which had members like Fr. Vincent Mascarenhas (now Archbishop of Delhi), Fr. Susai Sebastian, Fr. Joe Thomas and others. By the year 1994 there was a Charismatic Prayer Meeting in English at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Bro. Allen from Bombay was the leader of the group. The group used to meet after the evening mass at 7pm every Tuesday.

I make know the end from the beginning (Isa 46:10)

In the latter part of the year 1995 Bro. Allen was transferred back to. The youngsters in the group fell led to breech the gap in leadership. Jyotsna Paul and Mathew Antony eventually took up the leadership.

Some of the other youngsters in the group at that time where:

Jolly Jacob – now settled in Bhopal, a person who was instrumental in adding lot of members to the group.

Anand & Ravi Naidu (two dynamic brothers from Bangalore the former a talented musician and the latter an anointed preacher). They brought not only their gifts of music and preaching but also order and structure to the group.

Dr(s) Maria and Joseph (sister and brother duo) settled in Ajmer and Chandigarh respectively.

Liesel (a teacher now at Jesus & Mary School),

Hema Thomas (now settled in Cochin),

Mrs. Irene D’Souza whose son Nitin is now part of the group.

Promotion comes… but from the Lord (Ps 75:6-7)

By late 1995 the leadership was sensing a need for change of time and venue as Tuesdayevening was inconvenient for people coming from far, what with Delhi’s winters. In January 1996, the meeting had graduated from Tuesday evening to Sunday morning, from the Cathedral to the Old Chetnalaya Building.

I know you by Name

Towards the latter half of 1996 the group organized its first retreat led by Fr.Rufus Pereira and his team from Mumbai. During that time Jyotsna almost single handedly brought out a hymn book containing songs sung in the renewal during that time. Mathew suggested ‘Living Waters’ as the name of the hymn book which eventually became the name of the group too., Living Waters made famous by the hymn book.

My house will be a house of prayer (Lk 19:46)

All kinds of people young and old from different backgrounds, races and states are welcomed in Living Waters. By degrees, God increased the number rapidly. Since then, till today the group has come together as a family every Sunday at the Sacred Heart Cathedral to spend time in praising and worshiping our wonderful God with joyful songs and to share His Word.

The Word is shared by almost all the members of the group, in turns, which is a wonderful way of encouraging and edifying each other. It is also a great way to learn from one another’s experiences how God helps in need and how we can hold on to His Promises. Each member is endowed with the different charisms of the Holy Spirit, which they frequently exercise to assist each other for better growth in their faith, and also of those who need their help.

See I am doing a new thing (Isa 43:18)

To prepare ourselves as a group which could minister to the needs of souls in North India we started meetings every 3rd Sunday of the month in Hindi. This started in the month of June 2006. From 2005 every fourth Sunday of the month is devoted to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and also to pray for people seeking healing – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. There are numerous people who have been touched and healed during these times.

Reaching Out

Living Waters reaches out to hundreds of youth every year by conducting retreats at various schools and colleges, in Delhi and other parts of the country. The main focus of these retreats is to teach the young people about God’s eternal love for them and how they can grow up to be an ideal Christians in the eyes of God and others around them.

They are taught to bank upon the help of Jesus Christ to tackle the problems they face in the world. This is a difficult task, therefore, Living Waters provides individual counseling to help them see through their specific problems. These retreats have been massively successful in touching many young lives.

The Latest on Living Waters

After almost 12 years of shepherding Living Waters, Jyotsna and Mathew felt the need for a change in the leadership. They along with the core members, Piyush Pushkal and John Ambrose unanimously chose a new leader, Preeti Soreng on 16 July 2006. Preeti is a multi-talented person, blessed with charisms of healing and teaching. Her teachings are in-depth and incredibly reflective.
